A total of 3.41 million people have applied for the postgraduate entrance examination, which will begin on Saturday and last until Monday, for the 2020 academic year, according to the Ministry of Education, reported.

中新网报道，根据教育部官网消息，2020年全国硕士研究生招生考试将于本周六至下周一举行，报考人数341万人。

postgraduate entrance examination是硕士研究生入学考试。
今年的报考人数较去年增幅超过17%。2019学年（academic year）研究生报考人数达290万人，较2018年增长21%。
研究生招生信息网站（information website for postgraduate enrollment）公布的数据显示，过去五年来，江苏、四川、江苏、福建和广东省的报考人数（the number of students taking the exam）翻了一倍。
研考人数（postgraduate aspirants）的增加表明我国高等教育的需求（the demand for higher education）依旧强劲。
21世纪教育研究院副院长（vice-director）熊丙奇表示，许多学生报考研究生（apply for postgraduate studies）主要是为了找到更好的工作（find a better job）。
他指出，“不少受教育者接受高等教育，仍是为追求一纸文凭，而非为提高自身学识或能力（enhance their knowledge or skills），这导致大学毕业生整体质量不高（reduce the general quality of graduates），难以满足社会用人单位对大学毕业生的需求（companies may find it harder to get the employees they want）。”
