hit the nail on the head 字面意思是:“敲钉子的钉帽”,木工敲钉子时,正敲在它扁平的顶上,才能钉得恰到好处。这个短语引申而来的意思是“恰到好处,正中要害,一针见血”。因此,当美国人说"You hit the nail on the head!"时,他/她要表达的意思就是:"You hit the point!"、"You are right about this!"。
