A 10-month-old dog named Picasso is exiting a very blue period in his life, thanks to an Oregon dog rescue group.
Picasso was born with a facial deformity (畸形)that makes it look as if his nose is going right while his jaw goes left. Except for that, Picasso is healthy, according to Liesl Wilhardt, director of Luvable Dog Rescue. “He can eat sideways, but he’s a very messy eater,” she said. “Same with water.”
Pioasso was one of the five baby dogs born last year in Porterville, California. But his owner abandoned Picasso because he was unable to sell such an ugly dog, and it was taken to the Porterville Animal Shelter,

Every March, the country celebrates the accomplishments of women in American history. Even though these accomplishments go back a long way, most schools didn’t start focusing on women pioneers and their achievements until recently. Today, most colleges offer classes in women’s history and most schools teach kids about the many contributions women have made to our country.
On March 19,1911, a German woman named Clara Zetkin organized the very first International Women’s Day. Inspired by American working women, the annual event took on the causes of peace and women’s rights. In the 1960s t the women’s movement caused women to wonder why they weren’t included in the history books.
By the 1970s, more female historians began to look back at the contributions of women in history. In 1978, a California school district started Women’s History Week to promote the teaching of women’s history. School officials picked the week of March 8 to include International Women’s Day. It was so popular that, in 1981, Congress passed a law making the week a celebration for the entire country. The concept of studying women f s history continued to grow in popularity. A recent study led by researchers from the National University of Singapore (NUS) has found a clear link between the color of a taxi and its accident rate. An analysis of 36 months of detailed taxi, driver and accident data from two fleets of yellow and blue taxis in Singapore suggested that yellow taxis have fewer accidents than blue taxis. The higher visibility (能见度)of yellow makes it less difficult for drivers to avoid getting into accidents with yellow taxis, leading to a lower accident rate.
The study was led by Prof Ho. To test whether there was a relationship between the color of a taxi and the number of accidents the taxi had, the research team analysed data collected by the largest taxi company in Singapore- The researchers found that yellow taxis have about 6. 1 fewer accidents per 11000 taxis per month.
They also studied the economic effect of changing the color of the entire fleet of taxis to yellow. The Singapore taxi company involved in the study owns about 16,700 taxis in a ratio (比例)one yellow to three blue taxis.
